Michigan-based rapper and producer J Chase emerged out of the capital city of Lansing, Michigan in the early 2010s, first as a teenager with local group Black Diamond, and later as a solo artist. Born Joseph Washington, he adopted the J Chase moniker as his music career began to take off with the release of early mixtapes like Gumbo and Welcome to My Reality. His exposure increased with gigs opening for Big Sean, Bun B, Cardi B, B.O.B., Juicy J, Rich Homie Quan, Rich The Kid, Kid Ink, and other well-known acts, and by 2016 he'd found additional success with singles like Louder and She's a Monsta on MNS Records.
